I just read two books of Raymond Carver short stories, and I just started a second collection of Kurt Vonnegut short stories. I am motivated to write short stories and am exploring fiction, starting with a roman à clef approach but stetching further into pure fiction as I go.
And of course I am a comedian and storyteller so I still write a lot of memoir, and on Wednesdays I am pushing myself through another novel, mostly based on the idea that I'm smart enough that if I do something enough times I’ll keep getting better at it, and maybe also hoping that the third time really is the charm.
So, I may transition this to Fiction Friday, and Memoir Monday, and also sneak some poems essays in here and there when I feel like it. I’m teaching myself to be a writer publicly here in front of you and I hope you enjoy some of it, you’re not under no obligation or even expectation to like all or even most of it, but drop me a line now and then when you feel like I hit the ball. It really does keep me going.
I’m also going to make a deal with the devil, because I need to make money. So I will be putting some stuff on Amazon as there self publishing feature is very well designed and one of the first things will probably be a book of poetry and maybe I’ll call it deal with the devil. Anyway, watch for that soon.
Oh, and also, this is maybe annoying, but I edit after I publish, like a lot. I dont’ mean to. I have discovered a little quirk of mine that I see my writing with a different eyes once I know other eyes are one it. So the version in your in box is probably the biggest disaster, and the version here on Substack a week later is probably the best. Aged like FINE WINE!!
Thanks.
